(at the bar three weeks later with all 4 Monkees)
Davy: One week before we hit the big time. (Peter hiccups) What's wrong?
Micky: He hiccups before an audition remember.
Davy: Oh yeah, Hey look it's Sharon
Peter: Shannon
Davy: Sharon an ex of mine
Mike: So?
Davy: So we dated two weeks ago, right after I broke up with Valleri and I was looking for a serious relationship.
Micky: Oh yeah, what went wrong?
Davy: She found out about my reputation and broke up with me. I know what I did before isn't exactly trustworthy but she could tell I am a different person than who I was.
Peter: So you're saying it's her fault?
Micky: No I think you mean the other way around.
Davy: No you're both wrong let's just play that stupid song I wrote about her. (song: A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You)
Walk out,
Girl don't you walk out
We've got things to say
Talked out, let's have it talked out
Things will be okay
Girl
I don't want to fight
That I'm a little bit wrong
And you're a little bit right
I said girl
You know that it's true
It's a little bit me, (a little bit me)
And it's a little bit you... too
Don't know... just what I said wrong
But girl I apologize
Don't go... here's where you belong
So wipe the tears from your eyes
Girl
I don't want to find
That I'm a little bit wrong
And you're a little bit right
I said girl
You know that it's true
It's a little bit me
And it's a little bit you... too
Oh girl
I don't want to find
I'm a little bit wrong
And you're a little bit right
I said girl
You know that it's true
It's a little bit me
And it's a little bit you... to
It's a little bit me
It's a little bit you
Girl don't go
no no no no no
Girl don't go
no no no no no
Hey girl
Sharon: (coming up to the band) Hey Davy I liked that song you just sang.
Davy: I wrote it about us.
Sharon: There is still no us
Davy: Then why'd you come over to talk to me?
Sharon: To make sure you were alright and that my message was clear.
Davy: If I got your message clear then how can I be alright?
Sharon: No more of your lines Davy
Peter: Oh those aren't his lines
Davy: (sarcastic) Thanks Peter.
Peter: (sincerely) No problem Davy
Sharon: I gotta go
Davy: Okay (Sharon leaves Davy turns to Peter) What the hell was that about?
Peter: (dumbfounded) What?

The Monkees film Scene XVII
(Next morning all 4 Monkees plus Mary, Carole and Shannon)
Shannon: So where are all you guys from?
Peter: I lived everywhere up the Northeast coast, primarily Connecticut.
Mike: Texas Dallas area
Micky: L.A.
Davy: Manchester, England
Shannon: Really? How did you guys meet?
Mike: We went to the same LA area college hoping to make it big as a star before we had to graduate.
Shannon: So what did you all study?
Micky: Architecture.
Davy: Performance Arts
Peter: Computer Sciences
Mike: Me too
Shannon: So I guess Mike and Peter met first.
Davy: No we all met at an audition where this performance arts center was hosting a Beatles tribute musical.
Peter: They thought Davy could play Paul if he could play an instrument.
Davy: That's when we formed a band and I learned how to play bass.
Shannon: What drew you guys together?
Mary: They were the last four cut.
Shannon: None of them made it?
Peter: I didn't look enough like a pop star.
Micky: I was manic and spontaneous but I wasn't as witty or classy as the Beatles plus I ad libbed too much.
Mike: I had too much of a country sound for any of the parts.
Mary: Mike and Peter were already accomplished musicians and so was Micky but they needed a drummer and he was a guitarist.
Micky: Davy had stage charisma and would have just been a singer if Mike didn't try to put him in his place and tell him to learn an instrument.
Peter: I went from bass to keyboards.
Carole: So when are we going to audition for The Great American Band and see the Hollywood area.
Micky: There's a problem with that plan, Mike?
Carole: (shocked) What?
Mike: Well it's a short trip but being unemployed, well except for Peter's part time work, we can't afford hotel rooms for all of us unless we share one room and seven is more than they would allow at any hotel so it's only going to be the band.
Mary: (angry) You can't even get a second room for me and you?
Mike: Lay off it's only a week and you know I'll be faithful.
Mary: How is it only one week?
Mike: Because if we last more than one episode we'll fly you all down to the show.
Mary: (bitter) Fine
Mike: Okay tomorrow we'll practice again at the Vincent Van Gogh Gogh.
Peter: What song?
Mike: All of them.
Davy: Which are we going to use for the audition?
Mike: No clue, anyone wrote anything new?
Micky: Let's just practice what we already know.
Shannon: So where are all you guys from?

The Monkees (film) Scene XV
(Peter, Shannon, Mike, Mary, Micky, Carole paired up at the beach going separate directions)
Shannon: So do you all write songs?
Peter: Yes
Shannon: Who writes the most?
Peter: Mike
Shannon: Really? You seem to strike me as more the songwriting type?
Peter: Well Mike has more input being the leader.
Shannon: Why does he lead?
Peter: Because he has the personality for it.
Shannon: Creative, inspiring and compassionate
Peter: No arrogant, demanding and pushy (Shannon laughs) so why is it you like me or at least come to talk to me after the show?
Shannon: Like I said I'm a fan.
Peter: Since when?
Shannon: Since I saw you talking with Micky at the bar. It impressed me how much you do and yet you don't seem to feel appreciated. So what do you like about me?
Peter: Well you're blunt but obviously very considerate.
Shannon: Just like you
Peter: Thanks (song: It's Nice To Be With You)
Hey!
Look what you have done
Showing me the sun
And now it's shining through
It's nice to be with you
Hey!
I like the things you say
And I like the way
You do the things you do
It's nice to be with you
Each time that I give my heart to someone new
They just turn it blue
But this time
Is my time
And my time
Is all the time I have
To be with you
So please
Never go away
Say you're going to stay
And make my dreams come true
It's nice to be with you
Each time that I give my heart to someone new
They just turn it blue
But this time
Is my time
And my time
Is all the time I have
To be with you
So please
Never go away
Say you're going to stay
And make my dreams come true
It's so nice to be with you
Mike: It's such a beautiful night.
Mary: Yes it is. Is this how you pictured married life?
Mike: No it's even better.
Mary: Seriously with all the stress you get from me and the band?
Mike: You and the band are my only stress release, my only companionship it gives meaning to my music (song: Tapioca Tundra)
Reasoned verse, some prose or rhyme
Lose themselves in other times
And waiting hopes cast cast silent spells
That speak in clouded clues.
It cannot be a part of me,
For now it's part of you.
Careful plays on fields
That seems to vanish when they're in between
And softly as I walk away
In freshly tattered shoe.
It cannot be a part of me
For now it's part of you.
Sunshine, ragtime
Blowing in the breeze.
Midnight, looks right
Standing more at ease.
Silhouettes and figures stay
Close to what he had to say
And one more time the faded dream
Is saddened by the news.
It cannot be a part of me
For now it's part of you.
Well, Sunshine, ragtime
Blowing in the breeze.
Midnight, looks right
Standing more at ease.
Sunshine, ragtime
Blowing in the breeze.
Midnight, looks right
Standing more at ease.
Silhouettes and figures stay
Close to what he had to say
And one more time the faded dream
Is saddened by the news.
It cannot be a part of me
For now it's part of you.
Micky: So how are you my muse?
Carole: Okay considering all the uncertainty.
Micky: What uncertainty?
Carole: Of our future together
Micky: There is no uncertainty there. (Song: As We Go Along)
I can tell by your face
That you're looking to find a place
To settle your mind
And reveal who you are
And you shouldn't be shy
For I'm not gonna try
To hurt you or heal you or steal your star
Open your eyes
Get up off your chair
There's so much to do in the sunlight
Give up your secrets
Let down your hair
And sit with me here by the firelight
Why think all about
Who's gonna win out
We'll make up our story as we go along
There's so little time
For us to try to rhyme
And so many highways to travel upon
Open your eyes
Get up off your chair
There's so much to do in the sunlight
Give up your secrets and let down your hair
And sit with me here by the firelght

The Monkees (film) Scene XIV
(Main room with Mike, Peter, Carole, Mary and Shannon; Micky just entering)
Carole: So what's wrong with Davy?
Micky: A mid life crisis or perhaps an epiphany.
Mike: Really?
Micky: Yeah and I think he'll need some time alone he's calling old girlfriends.
Mike: When can we practice again?
Peter: When's the TV audition?
Mike: Davy told me in a month.
Peter: Then we'll have plenty of time to practice but for now let's all take our girlfriends
Mike: Or wife
Peter: And just spend some time with them it could inspire a song
Micky: Let's go to the beach it's in our backyard Shannon.
(all exit in pairs)

The Monkees (Film) - Scene XII
(Back at the Monkees' home with Mary already there, Mike, Davy, Valleri, Micky, Carole just arriving)
Mary: Where were you guys?
Mike: Rehearsing at the bar.
Mary: Where's Peter? (group dumbfounded)
Valleri: Who cares? It's not like your band needs a keyboard player.
Carole: Oh so you noticed there is a band?
Davy: It's okay Carole (to Valleri) you better leave.
Valleri: After all I've done for you?
Micky: It was nothing a million other groupies haven't done
Valleri: Screw you all.
Micky: When?
Mike: Where?
Davy: How?
Peter: (walking in with Shannon) and how often?
Valleri: (to Shannon) Don't waste your time sleeping with him it won't get you to Davy.
Shannon: Who's Davy?
Davy: Me.
Shannon: Oh the bass player, you know you weren't that good.
Valleri: Yes he was.
Shannon: Isn't he kind of short for you?
Valleri: Not really.
Shannon: Seems like you'd have to bend at the knees to kiss him.
Valleri: (giggles) Yes as a matter of fact I do (leaves)
Shannon: What was that about?
Carole: Nothing
Mary: Anyway what's with the whole band getting back together?
Mike: Oh you act like this was the first time we ever broke up.
Davy: Hey do you think I should try to patch things up with Valleri?
Mike: What brought that up?
Micky: (ironic) It must have been eight hours since he last got any, Carole, Mary and...
Shannon: Shannon
Micky: (mock urgency) Okay Carole, Mary and Shannon please do not make eye contact with Davy, to him that's a sign of foreplay.
Mike: (sarcastically) If it's really been eight hours maybe we should watch out.
Davy: Very funny (song:Tear Drop City)
About as low as I felt in a long time
And I know that I did a wrong at the wrong time
It's plain to see, she's down on me
And I know she'll feel that way for a long time
I was high on top but I didn't know it
Tell me, why did I have to go and blow it?
I used my lines too many times
And now I've got a badly hurt heart to show it
Took me too long to discover
How much I really love her
How'd I ever end up in this bind?
What a drag
There she goes looking for pretty clover
No one knows what it's like until it over
Without a doubt, I just found out
And I suppose I never did get to know her
Tear drop city, Tear drop city
Took me to long to discover
How much I really love her
How'd I ever end up in this bind
What a drag
About as low as I felt in a long time...
Micky: Wow you must really miss her?
Davy: Yes
Peter: But why her you've had many girls why does she seem so important?
Davy: Just because
Mike: Hey wait a minute wait just one minute you did tell her to leave after she bashed Peter.
Peter: You did? Really?
Davy: I don't want to talk about it, I told you, I need you guys I meant that so I stick up for you (leaves)

The Monkees (Film) - Scene XI
(Micky and Peter picking up women at the bar with Carole)
Bartender: I thought I told you, you can't be here if you can't afford the drinks.
Micky: What if Carole still can?
Bartender: How do you make so much money?
Carole: You already know how.
Micky: You don't do tricks Carole?
Carole: No and I'm offended you'd suggest that, you know a tease makes more money.
Bartender: Now that I know your secret I'll stop wasting my time.
Carole: That's what they all say.
Peter: I just thought of something Micky.
Micky: What?
Peter: I really hope the songwriting competition isn't judged in part by song title because between me, you and Mike our best song titles are "Papa Gene's Blues" "Randy Scouse Git" and "For Pete's Sake"
Micky: Yeah they'll probably toss them away as novelty songs.
Carole: So are you both not going to follow Mike's songwriting pact?
Peter: I don't know
Carole: What if it's just you two keep the pact.
Micky: What about Davy?
Peter: What about him we don't need him.
Carole: So then you need a new guitarist and bass player.
Peter: I can play bass and guitar as well as keyboards.
Micky: Only problem is not at the same time
Peter: Davy knows about as much about bass playing as Sid Vicious and you were stuck playing the drums because Mike, Davy and myself ducked out of that position. You're a guitarist.
Micky: So you want to go solo Peter?
Peter: Would you consider working with Neil and Stephen?
Micky: They work with David and Graham and besides I'm not a folkie. (Davy comes running toward them)
Davy: Guys I got great news we got a gig on a variety show sort of like American Idol only for real bands, Mike is already in on it, I called him already. He told me you guys left the group but for a four year record deal I think you might want to reform.
Micky: Was that what the phone call was about earlier?
Davy: Not at first it wasn't but Valleri informed me about an ex auditioning for the show.
Peter: Valleri Simpson?
Davy: Oh yeah sorry Peter, but considering how she acted I didn't think it would really mean anything to you...but are we still on for the gig we need you buddy.
Peter: Okay.
Davy: Great Mike's coming here with our instruments to practice this new song I wrote.
Bartender: No you're not we don't play live music here.
Davy: The owner of this bar says it does and here's the contract (hands over contract) for us to play.
Bartender: When did you get this agreement?
Davy: Last night the owner said we bring so much business he'd let us play here any night we want for free so long as I perform with the group and I have a song written and ready. (Mike arrives; sets up)
Mike: We're ready. (Micky, Peter, Davy, Mike go to their instruments)
Davy: Hey hay we're the Monkees and tonight we are recording live to audition for the Great American Band so next month we may be coming to your TV so can we get some hometown support (crowd roars) (song: Oh My My)
Oh my my, I could love you forever.
Oh my my, I only wish that I could.
Oh my my, I could love you forever.
Oh my my, girl you feel so good.
You, you make my heart sing.
You make my life worthwhile.
I feel such there's so much to discover
To uncover it is gonna take a while.
Oh my my, I could love you forever.
Oh my my, I only wish that I could.
Oh my my, I could love you forever.
Oh my my, girl you feel so good.
I think of us together
It takes my breath away.
Up to the sky I go flying
"Oh my my" is all I can say.
Break
Oh my my
Oh my my my my
Oh my my my my my my
Oh my oh my (oh my oh my oh my my my my my my)
You, you make my heart sing.
You make my life worthwhile.
I feel such there's so much to discover
To uncover it is gonna take a while.
Oh my my, I could love you forever.
Oh my my, I only wish that I could.
Oh my my, I could love you forever.
Oh my my, I could love you forever.
Oh my my, I only wish that I could.
Oh my my, I could love you forever.
Oh my girl you feel so good.
(offstage Peter sits back at the bar)
Shannon: (to Peter) Hey you playing keyboards would you like to have a talk with a fan.
Peter: (without looking) If you're after Mike or Micky they're involved if you want Davy I'll introduce you to his bedroom,
Shannon: What? No! What's your name?
Peter: Peter Tork (turns around; gets nervous) actually my full name is Peter Halsten Thorkelson and I am really sorry about my rudeness I was just screwed over by a couple of ex girlfriends one was trying to get to Davy the other wanted my day job.
Shannon: I'm so sorry things must be getting complicated for you especially in your outlook on romance; I myself am typically a cynical withdrawn person at least most people think I am.
Peter: Why would anyone think you're cynical you're extremely charming.
Shannon: (blushes) Thanks, it's because my parents broke up I don't take relationships seriously not to say I take sex lightly (blushes) but I learn to be self sufficient and being alone I typically don't have to care what people think so I have a lot of quirks. I've probably just ruined my shot with you...
Peter: That's what I thought about myself a moment ago.
Shannon: Thank God you're so patient by now people just give me the funniest looks. This connection we're having is really restoring my faith in companionship.
Peter: Me too (song; I'm A Believer)
I thought love was only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else but not for me.
Love was out to get me
That's the way it seemed.
Disappointment haunted all my dreams.
Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind.
I'm in love, I'm a believer!
I couldn't leave her if I tried.
I thought love was more or less a given thing,
Seems the more I gave the less I got.
What's the use in tryin'?
All you get is pain.
When I needed sunshine I got rain.
Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind.
I'm in love, I'm a believer!
I couldn't leave her if I tried.

The Monkees (Film) Scene X
(at their home living room all 4 Monkees, Carole and Mary)
Mike: Now I know we've had both personal and professional troubles but this meeting is only to address our collective professional troubles.
Peter: Davy doesn't have any troubles
Mike: Shut up Peter
Carole: Don't tell him to shut up.
Mary: Don't talk to my legal husband like that.
Carole: That's it you little (Micky restrains her)
Micky: Everybody calm down.
Davy: Thanks Micky
Mike: Anyway there's some good news I just found out there's a local songwriting competition it only allows one submission per songwriter but with each of us contributing a song we have a good chance at the $25,000 publishing contract.
Micky: But it only has one winner how do we know each of us won't take the money and run if they might be the winner?
Mike: Truth is I kept this competition a secret so I could win but I don't think I have a good chance not as good than if we all contributed.
Davy: So why should we trust you?
Mike: Because I need you to, I can't try to leave you guys; I would have done it for Mary seven years ago, but without you the music of my life would stop. People, I am convinced, need only two things music and friendship. These two things keep us, as people, going when everything else is wrong.
Micky: So what was your song, Mike?
Mike: The music sheets are by your instruments so if you're ready (they go to their instruments) (Song: Listen To The Band)
Hey, hey, mercy woman plays a song and no one listens,
I need help I'm falling again.
Play the drum a little louder,
Tell me I can live without her
If I only listen to the band.
Listen to the band!
Weren't they good, they made me happy.
I think I can make it alone.
Oh, mercy woman plays a song and no one listens,
I need help I'm falling again.
Play the drum a little bit louder,
Tell them they can live without her
If they only listen to the band.
Listen to the band!
Now weren't they good, they made me happy.
I think I can make it alone.
Oh, woman plays a song and no one listens,
I need help I'm falling again.
C'mon, play the drums just a little bit louder,
Tell us we can live without her
Now that we have listened to the band.
Listen to the band!
Mike: Okay so should we rehearse for our next gig or work on the songwriting contest? (Davy's cell phone rings he answers)
Davy: Hello I'll be right over (hangs up)
Mike: What about practice?
Davy: Why not go with the songwriting we don't even have a gig yet. (leaves)
Peter: What's your hurry?
Davy: You wouldn't understand.
Peter: I wish Davy would quit the group.
Mike: What? Between my leadership and Davy's looks we are carrying the band.
Peter: Well then you don't need me (leaves)
Micky: Or me or our songwriting (leaves with Carole)
Mary: All these years I tried to get you to forget about this band and you destroy it anyway by your own ambition (leaves room)

(Mike in bed with Mary)
Mary: Mike if you had another mouth to feed would it motivate you to get a steady job?
Mike: I swear Mary if you were pregnant I would leave because I know it wouldn't be mine.
Mary: That's not funny (long pause) and besides I am pregnant and it is yours.
Mike: Really?
Mary: Unless Peter, Micky or Davy snook up on me while I was sleeping.
Mike: Well we can rule out Peter and Micky, when did you find out?
Mary: Three months ago.
Mike: What?
Mary: I figured I had to tell you tonight or you might notice on your own.
Mike: No kidding (Song: Mommy And Daddy) (Mary turns the lights out dream sequence of Mike seeing a younger image of himself around 8 to 12 as the song progresses singing the lyrics to his current self in8 to 12 years)
Ask your mommy and daddy, "What happened to the Indian?
How come they're all living in places
With too much snow or too much sand?"
Tell your mommy, "I got a funny feeling deep inside of me"
Ask your daddy, "Is it really as bad as people make it seem?"
Wa ta tick it ta too too..
Ask your mommy why everybody swallows all those little pills
Ask your daddy why that soldier doesn't care who he kills
After they've put you to sleep and tucked you safely down in your bed
Whisper, "Mommy and Daddy would you rather that
I learned it from my friends, instead?
Do you think I'm to young to know, to see, to feel, or hear
My questions need an answer or a vacuum will appear"
Don't be surprised if they turn and walk away
And tell your mommy and daddy that you love them anyway
That you love them anyway...
Give them a kiss
Love will set you free

(The Monkees and Carole at the bar all drinking)
Micky: So Peter how did you get a job and not tell us?
Peter: Well I've been busy.
Mike: Do you work long hours?
Peter: No I'm just hanging around with Diane from work while you guys look for work.
Micky: Well it sure is nice of you to buy these drinks.
Peter: Am I buying for everybody?
Carole: That's what Davy said.
Peter: All I heard was let's get drunk.
Micky: Well a two week check should cover five people if we don't get a third round, but just in case how much was the paycheck?
Peter: $75
Davy: How's that possible?
Peter: I work one day a week it was the only opening.
Micky: At least you'll cover our tab.
Peter: Not really I just renewed my bus pass today.
Mike: So how much do you have left?
Peter: Enough that you guys will only have to pay $30
Mike: Do they have a band playing here?
Peter: No why?
Mike: We could work off our tab that way.
Bartender: (approaching) So who's paying? (Carole hands over a secret stash) Thanks (Diane walks in the bar with another guy)
Peter: Hey there's Diane
Davy: Is that her brother?
Peter: Who?
Davy: The guy she's with
Peter: No she's an only child.
Davy: I'm sorry I was under the impression you two were dating
Peter: So was I (Micky and Carole pet and hug Peter; Diane comes up to Peter cheerfully)
Diane: Congratulate me Peter I just got a promotion.
Peter: You did? How? I didn't even know there was one open.
Diane: There wasn't but I suggested they put an opening to have a computer and electrics expert working in customers service to deal with complaints specifically arising from toys in that department.
Peter: (betrayed) That was my idea I told you about it in the park the other day.
Diane: (indifferent) Yeah but if you were serious why not tell the manager before telling me, besides I don't think they'd offer you the job.
Peter: I have a four year degree in computer sciences.
Diane: Oh that's right.
Peter: Why did you hang out with me in the first place if you were going treat me this way?
Diane: Why else? I could tell by your first day of work you took the job seriously and I know to latch on to the rising star, which thanks to your naivety is me.
Peter: (completely dejected) You're rather candid for someone working on another scheme already.
Diane: Oh Jack it's not a scheme it's a favor if I can make his ex jealous he'll pay for this date as overtime (whispers) and if he gets me a few benefits so will he.
Peter: That's more than I ever got.
Diane: We went out.
Peter: No this is a date this going when you're looking and acting like you're interested in the other person. With me you couldn't even look me in the eye I just thought you were cute, quiet and shy
Diane: I gotta go with Jack now nice...
Peter: Not before I tell you off (Song; I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone)

Davy: Great job Micky
Mike: So what are we going to play?
Carole: If you don't mind Micky wrote a song for me a couple days ago. The music is on each of your music stands already.
Mike: Is Micky going to sing and play drums?
Micky: No I don't have to but I'd like to sing.
Mike: Then who will play drums?
Carole: I can I know the song
Mike: Okay just for rehearsal until we get use to the song because it can only be the four of us and we all got to be playing something.

Oh, I could hide 'neath the wings

Micky: Well we can't afford studio time
Mike: We might not have to I invested $5000 in recording equipment so we can record live DVDs and CDs at our shows and sell them ourselves
Peter: Why not record at our home?
Mike: Because the acoustics are wrong, it would sound like a lame demo but I found people selling bootlegs of that gig we did at the park two years ago.
Davy: People are buying our albums?
Mike: Only we're not making any money.
Davy: But people are finding out about us.
Mike: Well yeah but until we get steady pay we can't allow bootleggers to take our money.
Davy: But the bootleggers are actually doing our publicity for us, in a couple of days a music executive could be looking for us.

(Mike's bedroom with Mike and Mary)
Mary: I know you never promised me a rose garden but I'd settle for a front lawn.
Mike: You know I've been trying to run away from suburban life.
Mary: Are you saying you regret settling down?
Mike: No I like being a husband but that's different than a suburbanite. A suburbanite has no loyalties or dreams beyond his own sheltered community and school district (Song Pleasant Valley Sunday)
The local rock group down the street Is trying hard to learn their song
Serenade the weekend squire, who just came out to mow his lawn
Another Pleasant Valley Sunday
Charcoal burning everywhere
Rows of houses that are all the same
And no one seems to care
See Mrs. Gray she's proud today because her roses are in bloom
Mr. Green he's so serene, He's got a t.v. in every room
Another Pleasant Valley Sunday
Here in status symbol land
Mothers complain about how hard life is
And the kids just don't understand
Creature comfort goals
They only numb my soul and make it hard for me to see
My thoughts all seem to stray, to places far away
I need a change of scenery
Ta Ta Ta...
Another Pleasant Valley Sunday

Mary: I know you never promised me a rose garden but I'd settle for a front lawn.
Mike: You know I've been trying to run away from suburban life.
Mary: Are you saying you regret settling down?

(in the house with Peter, Micky, Carole, Davy, and Mike just entering)
Micky: Where the heck were you Mike?
Mike: Don't mess with me Micky.
Peter: (sympathetic) Another fight with Mary huh?
Mike: Shut up Peter
Davy: What the hell crawled up your ass?
Mike: Forget it (leaves mumbling to himself) why the hell do I mess with all this anyway? (Mary enters)
Davy: By the way Mike's acting I suppose you're still not putting out.
Mary: We can't all be the shameless whore you are Davy (leaves following Mike)
Micky: Great job dumbass you know I'm the only one to make amends with Mike just so we can get back to practicing
Davy: Oh like you're the big peace keeper.
Micky: Well what would you do to get the band back together?
Davy: Go solo. He'd do it in a second if he didn't need us.

(in a parked car with Mike and his wife Mary in their driveway)
Mike: So, what are you saying that I should sell out on my dreams and be practical worrying about making a living instead of living my life? If I asked that of you any marriage counselor would tell you to just leave me.
Mary: You're suppose to be the provider. All you've provided is debt. We're living with three of your ex-college band mates. You said that if you weren't signed by your senior year you'd get a steady job and you graduated college seven years ago.
Mike: Yeah and I promised the band that if I got steady work I wouldn't lose focus on the band and I had a choice between playing a gig that paid $500 for a two hour event or going to my work that pays $10 an hour.
Mary: But you got fired.
Mike: So that gig landed me another job and word of mouth about The Monkees exploded.
Mary: You've had five gigs since and that was two years ago and my waitressing money can't feed five people and whoever your friends drag in from a bar.
Mike: Carole's helping out.
Mary: Yeah that's another thing, I don't like that, that stripper is always here.
Mike: Hey she's Micky's girlfriend besides it's the only job where she can find health care.
Mary: So would you like it if I was a stripper
Mike: Well, considering you're my wife and yet I barely see you naked myself, I don't think I'd like the idea of you being around other men.
Mary: Especially since they'd be better providers.
Mike: One minute you hate strippers then you want to be one the next minute.
Mary: I was being sarcastic.
Mike: But you were making a point. That it would have more dignity than being married to me.
Mary: It's hard to know what gets through, you don't take advice.
Mike: The last practical advice I got was to get a degree in computer sciences and all I got was that job at the Wal-Mart electronics department. A lot of help practical advice gets me. (leaves car and enters house)

Movie Script-The Monkees (just the overview premise)
One of my favorite tv shows as a kid was The Monkees starring Peter Tork, Micky Dolenz, Mike Nesmith and Davy Jones and since I was about five I saw this video they made "Heart And Soul" that lasted about 40 minutes I used to watch it over and over and in brief passing Micky mentioned the possibility of a new Monkees movie, well since then there's been a Get Smart, two Flintstones, two Addams Family, two Brady Bunch, two Charlie's Angels movies but no new Monkees movie so I wrote one in case anyone's interested. As with every tv to film adaptations there's a few changes. First they are four unknown musicians living together in their early thirties still but they met in college in California and Mike Nesmith is married to his college sweetheart Mary, and Micky is dating a stripper who's been with him a few years. Davy is still promiscuous and successful at it and Peter still has trouble with women. The main plots are their relationship problems, their ego problems with their place in the band and their struggle to get on a reality show hosted by Ryan Seacrest called the Next Great American Band. Davy plays bass and Peter just plays keyboards in the band versus Peter playing both and Davy just standing around with a tambourine
