Legends of Entertainment Who Didn't Pass 40

Feeling sick today so I won't work on retyping my original works today either. Feel virtually bed ridden but needed to do something, something fun that doesn't have to be meticulous so despite the morbid nature of being fascinated with people who died young I would like to honor some who too young to be recognized as legends in their time and I primarily focus on those who didn't get a lot of media notice when they died

Mitch Hedberg- hilarious comedian with three comedy cds so far one being post humorous Strategic Grill Locations, Mitch All Together, Do You Believe In Gosh? focused mainly on word plays and abstract thought like Steven Wright, made a small appearance in Almost Famous and the tv show That 70's Show one episode

Chris Farley- very physical comedian from Saturday Night Live 1990-1995 famous for Chippendale's Dancer, Matt Foley Motivational Speaker, Bennett Brauer news anchor, starred in Tommy Boy, Black Sheep, Beverly Hills Ninja, Almost Heroes featured in Wayne's World, Wayne's World 2, Coneheads, Airheads, Billy Madison and Dirty Work

Bon Scott- original lead singer of AC/DC until his death in 1980, made six albums Jailbreak, High Voltage, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Let There Be Rock, Powerage, Highway To Hell (the last one before AC/DC hit it big with Back In Black the main song a tribute to him)

Bobby Darin- crooner pop singer turned actor famous songs Splish Splash, Dream Lover, Mack The Knife, Beyond The Sea (also the name of a film about him)

Keith Moon- drummer for the Who until 1978 his death, best natural musician in the group and one of the greatest drummers to achieve any fame I recommend for listening to drumming parts the Who songs I Can See For Miles, Happy Jack

John Bonham- drummer for Led Zeppelin until 1980 and strong contender for best drummer against Keith Moon, Neil Pert (from Rush), Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix Experience) and Ginger Baker (from Cream) songs to note The Immigrant Song, Rock And Roll

Andy Kaufman- comedian who played Latka from Taxi and made tv specials with his alternate personas with Tony Clifton and Foreign Man with funny bits of Foreign Man doing mock lame impressions of American icons leading to shocking Elvis impression

John Belushi- very cliche but great comic and blues singer from Saturday Night Live 1975-1979 starred in National Lampoon's Animal House, The Blues Brothers, Continental Divide, Neighbors featured in Goin' South, Old Boyfriends, 1941

Bob Marley- revolutionary singer who has been sadly reduced to cliche pot fan base and his songs are heard primarily on flight ads to gated Jamaican resorts with exploited labor for foreign invested interest and the misuse of songs like "One Love" and "Stir It Up" as mood setting music. I love him but I can't even listen to his music anymore and I hope John Lennon's music is never whored out like that

Sam Kinison- raunchy racy comic who appeared in Back To School with Rodney Dangerfield and an episode of Married With Children many jokes focused on pitfalls of sexual relationships and the comic song "Wild Thing" albums include Have You Seen Me Lately?, Leader Of The Banned, Live In Hell I mention him because he was actually a swell person despite the bitter language of his humor and mastered the art of comic fury

George Gershwin- classical composer of jazz works including An American In Paris, Rhapsody In Blue and the all black opera Porgy & Bess wrote many pop standards with his lyricist brother Ira

Jimi Hendrix- the master guitarist rivaled only to Eric Clapton with four legendary albums released before his death Are You Experienced?, Axis: Bold As Love, Electric Ladyland, Band Of Gypsys (live) very under appreciated lyricist and serious blues musician who could do powerful soulful melodies, his lyrics and music reflected his manic depression aka bipolar disorder

Kurt Cobain- obtuse lyricist and guitarist for 90's grunge band Nirvana, known for his depression but whose lyrics had dark sarcastic humor particularly about teen relationships and social role playing albums include Bleach, Nevermind, Incesticide, In Utero and made a very moving unplugged performance on MTV recorded live

Otis Redding- died in a plane crash wrote and sang the song Respect (covered by Aretha Franklin) and wrote and performed Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay many other songs are less noted but are worth getting but Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay was his last recording and his first biracial hit

2Pac- extremely famous rapper who made five albums before his death including Me Against The World, Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z., All Eyez On Me, The 7 Day Theory, 2pacalypse Now but personally liked for his poetry published outside his music including his own pre-requiem "In The Event Of My Demise"

Notorious BIG- rapper with two albums in his lifetime Ready To Die, Life After Death featuring some of the first rap I ever heard including "Mo Money Mo Problems" "Big Poppa" "Hypnotize" "Juicy"

Buddy Holly- the only 50's rocker who could stand toe to toe with Chuck Berry with legendary songs "Peggy Sue" "That'll Be The Day" "Everyday" "Words Of Love" etc

Judith Barsi- using a database to make sure I didn't overlook any entertainer under 40 I came across a voice over actress who did some voice work on Don Bluth films "All Dogs Go To Heaven" and "The Land Before Time" she died very tragically at the age of 10 shot by her father, both films were treasured by me as a kid and it sickens me to think someone involved with something so dear to my childhood had to die so senselessly
