Poetry Post 58

Protest Violence Without Violence
War protesters fighting in the street
Passive resistance took the backseat
In times so Critical
Both sides hypocritical

Healing
If you seek to vanquish vile vice
Follow humbly friendly advice
All that you lack, is knowing you lack nothing needed
Faith and practice will help you succeed it

Another World
I want to go where I'm treated fair
Where a lover can always be found somewhere
Who will love enough to care
I wish you were with me there

Poetry Post 57

Dear Mr W
Why does W keep flip flopping the war
Al Qaida links, WMDs, liberation what are we killing for
Why are you asking us to kill when you don't fight
A reformed soldier has the greater right
Did you say Jesus gave you the word
Because He said those who live by die by the sword
Why are we killing for rights you suspended from American citizens
Both sides ran by militant religious fanatics then only hypocrisy wins

Ebony
I saw an ebony angel more precious than any idol graven
Two starry eyes gently glaring through a dark heaven
Your presence is divine every moment worth saving
Your kindness and curves would give any man a longing, loving, lusting craving
Perfect measurements immeasurable
Your sweetness and sensitivity are incredible
Your full beauty so unprecedent
Is undoubtly heaven sent

Aftermath
I'm looking back through my path
To see what caused this aftermath
I am looking deep within me
To find a part of me I couldn't see
But where is there to look
To everyone I'm just an open book
But I analyze my mind
To see the part of me I look to find

Poetry Post 56 (and nothing silly to say)

Soldiers Of Jah
Though politically neutral we were caught in its tangle
Genocided, ghettoized, and segregated by a purple triangle
Persecuted by those with the rafter in their eye
It is better to live than to die
But better to be a martyr than a soldier
So by the might of Jah we stand shoulder to shoulder
In our holy battle no sword was lifted nor gun was shot
But the Nazis sent us to the camps to rot
Our only weapons was a Gospel of Love
Preaching and praising our Lord above
Jehovah gave us our soul that he Devil tries to take
In a goal so vain in effort to make us God's name forsake

Miscarriage
Did you feel the baby kick in the womb
Did you see the baby through the ultrasound
We're turning the den into a nursery room
We're decorating it with teddy bears and rainbows all around
If it's a boy we'll name him James
If it's a girl we'll name her Ann
We are buying toys, crayons and family games
We are saving up a college fund that's going as planned
We bought this crib and this carriage
And before it's full born I love full hearted
Until my wife had a miscarriage
And our family was destroyed as quickly as it started

Sane, Safe, Senseless
We all play dumb
To keep ourselves numb
Because the numb can feel no pain
And the thoughtless can't be insane
And so the two together work out
To hide what life is all about

The Monkees (Film) Scene X

(at their home living room all 4 Monkees, Carole and Mary)
Mike: Now I know we've had both personal and professional troubles but this meeting is only to address our collective professional troubles.
Peter: Davy doesn't have any troubles
Mike: Shut up Peter
Carole: Don't tell him to shut up.
Mary: Don't talk to my legal husband like that.
Carole: That's it you little (Micky restrains her)
Micky: Everybody calm down.
Davy: Thanks Micky
Mike: Anyway there's some good news I just found out there's a local songwriting competition it only allows one submission per songwriter but with each of us contributing a song we have a good chance at the $25,000 publishing contract.
Micky: But it only has one winner how do we know each of us won't take the money and run if they might be the winner?
Mike: Truth is I kept this competition a secret so I could win but I don't think I have a good chance not as good than if we all contributed.
Davy: So why should we trust you?
Mike: Because I need you to, I can't try to leave you guys; I would have done it for Mary seven years ago, but without you the music of my life would stop. People, I am convinced, need only two things music and friendship. These two things keep us, as people, going when everything else is wrong.
Micky: So what was your song, Mike?
Mike: The music sheets are by your instruments so if you're ready (they go to their instruments) (Song: Listen To The Band)
Hey, hey, mercy woman plays a song and no one listens,
I need help I'm falling again.
Play the drum a little louder,
Tell me I can live without her
If I only listen to the band.
Listen to the band!
Weren't they good, they made me happy.
I think I can make it alone.
Oh, mercy woman plays a song and no one listens,
I need help I'm falling again.
Play the drum a little bit louder,
Tell them they can live without her
If they only listen to the band.
Listen to the band!
Now weren't they good, they made me happy.
I think I can make it alone.
Oh, woman plays a song and no one listens,
I need help I'm falling again.
C'mon, play the drums just a little bit louder,
Tell us we can live without her
Now that we have listened to the band.
Listen to the band!
Mike: Okay so should we rehearse for our next gig or work on the songwriting contest? (Davy's cell phone rings he answers)
Davy: Hello I'll be right over (hangs up)
Mike: What about practice?
Davy: Why not go with the songwriting we don't even have a gig yet. (leaves)
Peter: What's your hurry?
Davy: You wouldn't understand.
Peter: I wish Davy would quit the group.
Mike: What? Between my leadership and Davy's looks we are carrying the band.
Peter: Well then you don't need me (leaves)
Micky: Or me or our songwriting (leaves with Carole)
Mary: All these years I tried to get you to forget about this band and you destroy it anyway by your own ambition (leaves room)

Poetry Post 55 (I couldn't take retirement any longer)

Reflection
I saw a lonely man staring at me from the mirror
A man afraid, punished and trapped by fear
Too afraid to let himself come so near
Afraid of whatever he does he does will not endure
Afraid whatever he does is an eventual failure
Afraid of breaking the bonds that make him feel secure
He does nothing has nothing he would bother to say
The bonds words build will also soon decay
He sees no point in building what will just rot away

Wooden Home
Sitting lonely on this river creek
The future of the world growing bleak
Gold and silver is all the world seek
Rather than to live humble and meek
I must hide in my wooden home here
Every man must now live in this fear
But nature will leave me happy and clear

Foxy Lady
You are my passion, you are my intoxication
Your presence takes me on a mental vacation
Your words send me to tranquil meditation
Your fine body and good vibration
Turns on the sensation
With the peace of love and thrill of infatuation
That puts me into motivation
Your heart and spirit are my supreme destination

Legends of Entertainment Who Didn't Pass 40

Feeling sick today so I won't work on retyping my original works today either. Feel virtually bed ridden but needed to do something, something fun that doesn't have to be meticulous so despite the morbid nature of being fascinated with people who died young I would like to honor some who too young to be recognized as legends in their time and I primarily focus on those who didn't get a lot of media notice when they died

Mitch Hedberg- hilarious comedian with three comedy cds so far one being post humorous Strategic Grill Locations, Mitch All Together, Do You Believe In Gosh? focused mainly on word plays and abstract thought like Steven Wright, made a small appearance in Almost Famous and the tv show That 70's Show one episode

Chris Farley- very physical comedian from Saturday Night Live 1990-1995 famous for Chippendale's Dancer, Matt Foley Motivational Speaker, Bennett Brauer news anchor, starred in Tommy Boy, Black Sheep, Beverly Hills Ninja, Almost Heroes featured in Wayne's World, Wayne's World 2, Coneheads, Airheads, Billy Madison and Dirty Work

Bon Scott- original lead singer of AC/DC until his death in 1980, made six albums Jailbreak, High Voltage, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Let There Be Rock, Powerage, Highway To Hell (the last one before AC/DC hit it big with Back In Black the main song a tribute to him)

Bobby Darin- crooner pop singer turned actor famous songs Splish Splash, Dream Lover, Mack The Knife, Beyond The Sea (also the name of a film about him)

Keith Moon- drummer for the Who until 1978 his death, best natural musician in the group and one of the greatest drummers to achieve any fame I recommend for listening to drumming parts the Who songs I Can See For Miles, Happy Jack

John Bonham- drummer for Led Zeppelin until 1980 and strong contender for best drummer against Keith Moon, Neil Pert (from Rush), Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix Experience) and Ginger Baker (from Cream) songs to note The Immigrant Song, Rock And Roll

Andy Kaufman- comedian who played Latka from Taxi and made tv specials with his alternate personas with Tony Clifton and Foreign Man with funny bits of Foreign Man doing mock lame impressions of American icons leading to shocking Elvis impression

John Belushi- very cliche but great comic and blues singer from Saturday Night Live 1975-1979 starred in National Lampoon's Animal House, The Blues Brothers, Continental Divide, Neighbors featured in Goin' South, Old Boyfriends, 1941

Bob Marley- revolutionary singer who has been sadly reduced to cliche pot fan base and his songs are heard primarily on flight ads to gated Jamaican resorts with exploited labor for foreign invested interest and the misuse of songs like "One Love" and "Stir It Up" as mood setting music. I love him but I can't even listen to his music anymore and I hope John Lennon's music is never whored out like that

Sam Kinison- raunchy racy comic who appeared in Back To School with Rodney Dangerfield and an episode of Married With Children many jokes focused on pitfalls of sexual relationships and the comic song "Wild Thing" albums include Have You Seen Me Lately?, Leader Of The Banned, Live In Hell I mention him because he was actually a swell person despite the bitter language of his humor and mastered the art of comic fury

George Gershwin- classical composer of jazz works including An American In Paris, Rhapsody In Blue and the all black opera Porgy & Bess wrote many pop standards with his lyricist brother Ira

Jimi Hendrix- the master guitarist rivaled only to Eric Clapton with four legendary albums released before his death Are You Experienced?, Axis: Bold As Love, Electric Ladyland, Band Of Gypsys (live) very under appreciated lyricist and serious blues musician who could do powerful soulful melodies, his lyrics and music reflected his manic depression aka bipolar disorder

Kurt Cobain- obtuse lyricist and guitarist for 90's grunge band Nirvana, known for his depression but whose lyrics had dark sarcastic humor particularly about teen relationships and social role playing albums include Bleach, Nevermind, Incesticide, In Utero and made a very moving unplugged performance on MTV recorded live

Otis Redding- died in a plane crash wrote and sang the song Respect (covered by Aretha Franklin) and wrote and performed Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay many other songs are less noted but are worth getting but Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay was his last recording and his first biracial hit

2Pac- extremely famous rapper who made five albums before his death including Me Against The World, Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z., All Eyez On Me, The 7 Day Theory, 2pacalypse Now but personally liked for his poetry published outside his music including his own pre-requiem "In The Event Of My Demise"

Notorious BIG- rapper with two albums in his lifetime Ready To Die, Life After Death featuring some of the first rap I ever heard including "Mo Money Mo Problems" "Big Poppa" "Hypnotize" "Juicy"

Buddy Holly- the only 50's rocker who could stand toe to toe with Chuck Berry with legendary songs "Peggy Sue" "That'll Be The Day" "Everyday" "Words Of Love" etc

Judith Barsi- using a database to make sure I didn't overlook any entertainer under 40 I came across a voice over actress who did some voice work on Don Bluth films "All Dogs Go To Heaven" and "The Land Before Time" she died very tragically at the age of 10 shot by her father, both films were treasured by me as a kid and it sickens me to think someone involved with something so dear to my childhood had to die so senselessly
