The Monkees (film) "Opening Sequence"

Mike: (singing "Theme From The Monkees")

(shot of band rehearsing up from drumbeat opening to first line)
Here we come,

(various Monkees looking for day jobs)
walkin' Down the street.
We get the funniest looks from
Ev'ry one we meet.

(playing at a half empty bar)
Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
And people say we monkey around.
But we're too busy singing
To put anybody down.

(partying after the show)

We go wherever we want to,
do what we like to do
We don't have time to get restless,
There's always something new.
Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
And people say we monkey around.
But we're too busy singing
To put anybody down.

(Monkees flirting with women)
We're just tryin' to be friendly,
Come and watch us sing and play,
We're the young generation,
And we've got something to say.

(traveling in the Monkeemobile)
Any time, Or anywhere,
Just look over your shoulder
Guess who'll be standing there

(Return shot of band rehearsing)
Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
And people say we monkey around.
But we're too busy singing
To put anybody down.
(break)

(Montage of college classes, graduations, job interviews, day jobs, Mike's marriage to Mary)

(Davy's continuing active dating life)
Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
And people say we monkey around.

(Peter drifts away from group as Mike takes control)
But we're too busy singing
To put anybody down.

(band rehearsing and playing to a dismayed Mary)
We're just tryin' to be friendly,
Come and watch us sing and play,
We're the young generation,
And we've got something to say.

(segue ways into first scene)
Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
[repeat and fade]
